I met Huni Kuin people at the art exhibition in Vienna and the events which followed were something you would see in a movie. Diving deeper and deeper on my self exploration journey I ended up in the Amazon Rain forrest. I followed my inner voice, which told me to go on a research trip and visit the fascinating people and rituals at its source. Equipped with my camera, curiosity and a life straw filter I landed in Jordao, a reservation town in the state Acre, from where we took the boat to the Ni Yuxibu village. Somewhere in between: when my unconscious body was carried to the river after injecting it with frog poison in a Kambo ritual I had to laugh at the idea, that this is a pretty stupid, but extraordinary way to die. And some parts of me actually did! Very quickly after that I was already dancing around the fire and celebrating life, my new tribal name (Bimi) and deep connection I felt to the people around me, nature and the indigenous culture.

The Huni Kuin – “the genuine people” – are an indigenous tribe in the state of Acre, Brazil.
